Leslie L. Whitmoyer, 60, of Fredericksburg, died of complications from heart disease Sunday, Nov. 13 in Philadelphia at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

“Les,” as he was known to friends and family, was born Nov. 25, 1955 to P.T. Whitmoyer Jr. and the late Margaret Whitmoyer in Lebanon. He graduated from Tulpehocken High School in 1973 and worked for his father at Whitmoyer’s Swatara Creek Mill until 1977. Les retired in 2015 after working 36 years as a salesman for Kohl Building Products, Reading, serving builders and contractors in Lebanon and Berks counties. He volunteered on the Lebanon County Builders Association board of directors for many years, helping to organize the annual Builder’s Show. Les, and wife Cindy, operated Mountain View Farm, a 20-acre Simmental cattle breeding operation in Fredericksburg. A past-president of the Pennsylvania Simmental Association, Les also served as a director for the Pennsylvania Cattleman’s Association and supported the Lebanon County 4-H Livestock Club, Lebanon Area Fair 4-H and FFA Livestock Sale, and sold numerous project cattle and sheep to youth across Central Pennsylvania. Les enjoyed helping 4-Hers with their animals, especially first-year members. He was a long-time volunteer in the Lebanon Area Fair kitchen during the Fair and worked other Expo events throughout the year. He was most often found flipping burgers and chicken on the grill, serving hungry fairgoers with a smile. In his free time Les enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, and reading farming magazines and newspapers. He also spent almost 30 years renovating and remodeling two historic homes – first, his 1790s-era home in Monroe Valley, and second (and still in progress), his 1850s-era home and barn in Fredericksburg.

He is survived by his wife Cindy Whitmoyer, Fredericksburg; son Andy Whitmoyer and his wife Jess, Lititz; son Nick Whitmoyer, Arlington, Va.; daughter Emily Summey and her husband Troy, Halifax; daughter MaryEllen Whitmoyer, Santa Fe, N.M.; stepdaughter Sarah Limbert and her husband Adam, Bethel; stepson John Zimmerman, Pine Grove; three grandchildren; brother Ron Whitmoyer and his wife Sandy, Richland; brother Ted Whitmoyer, Fredericksburg; brother Jeff Whitmoyer and his wife Sue, Lebanon; sister Candy Orbinati and her husband Nick, Sauquoit, N.Y.; father P.T. Jr. (Jeff) Whitmoyer, Richland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 20 from 7-9 p.m., and from 10-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21 at Christman’s Funeral Home in Lebanon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, followed by burial at the cemetery of St. John’s Church in Mt. Aetna.
